Formula Junior: A Historic Legacy

Formula Junior was the brainchild of Italian Count Johnny Lurani, designed as a starter formula to encourage Italian drivers back into Grand Prix racing. Launched in 1958, it quickly gained popularity, and within two years, races were being held every weekend across five continents. By 1961, Formula Junior had become the direct feeder series into Formula One, producing legendary drivers such as Jim Clark, John Surtees, Peter Arundell, Mike Spence, Denis Hulme, Jochen Rindt, Mike Hailwood, and Giancarlo Baghetti. Revived as the first historic formula in 1975, it remains a thriving racing category 50 years later.

The association also organizes the prestigious Lurani Trophy International Series and the Silverline FJ Championship, ensuring competitive and exciting racing for historic motorsport enthusiasts.

2025 Lurani Trophy & Race Preview

The 2025 Lurani Trophy will take place across six iconic circuits: Paul Ricard, Hockenheim, Nürburgring, Brands Hatch, TT Circuit Assen, and Misano. One of the defining aspects of Historic Formula Junior is the close competition throughout the field—not just at the front.
